Taxis sit at the splurge end: plentiful at night but metered, so a ride from Hirafu to Annupuri can cost several times the bus fare. First-timers should grab a Welcome Card at the airport or their hotel. It doubles as a free shuttle pass and lists the color-coded routes so you don't wait at the wrong stop. The biggest rookie mistake is assuming the last bus runs late, most village shuttles finish before 9 p.m., leaving taxis as the only option.
